Opinions differ on which sex of dogs are easier to train. Some dog owners will argue the case of male dogs being too agressive when housed indoors. A case for female dogs being the right choice is that female dogs show more affection and that they are more trainable.
The practicalities of affection and agresssion by both male and female dogs will mainly depend on the breed of the dog. There are cases for and against both male and female dogs. Some issues which owners of female dogs need to contend with are female dogs when they are on heat. The owner needs to take action regarding female dog birth control or accept the fact that this will occur on a regular basis and they will have to keep finding new owners for the puppies. The reason for the regular births is that there is no such thing as menopause with female dogs. The alternative is for the owner to keep guarding their female dog when male dogs catch the female scent, which they are able to do from a considerable distance. If you wish to breed dogs ensure that you purchase a female dog which is pure bred.
When considering purchasing a male dog by nature they will mark our their territory, which can be both inside your home and in the yard outside. They carryout this process by urinating their territory point so they are able to find this position again. Trying to stop the male dog from doing so will be totally going against the dogs nature. It is not advisable to have two male dogs together in the house, even if one of the dogs is small. If you do there will be constant battles for supremacy as to who rules the roost.
The consensus of opinion is that female dogs on balance are easier to train. This does not, however,,apply to all breeds of female dogs. Male dogs are considered to be more active, with the exception of some breeds which are highly strung. This applies to female dogs as well. It is believed that the majority of people looking to buy a dog favor a female dog the reason being that female dogs are easier to train as they are not as aggressive as a male dog. Breeders take the opposite opinion and prefer to train male dogs as they consider that female dogs have a tendency to be temperamental and less manageable.Breeders believe that gender may not necessarily be the right predictor of a dogs behaviour.
As there is no evidence to predict male or female characteristics compared with each other, the decision as to whether a male or female dog is the easier to train does not have to be objective at all. It can be based on your personal preference for either a male or female dog. This could be influenced by dogs you have known in the past and whether it was a female or male dog which attracted your attention, or just on your personal preference. This should be the right decision for you.
